Kirks Year In Review

KIRK L. ANDERSEN * klandersen@aol.com * (work) No I better not put that here.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS & A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!

December 2004
(Correction Sometime In 2005)

(The Missing Year!)

Welcome to my 5th Annual "Year In Review" Holiday letter. This one is very different in the sense that I didn't get around to sending it out or even doing it on time. So it is only available in this archive. I have to review things from what little notes I've got on my calendars and what I remember when I see the scribles in the calendar and on my Palm Pilot. So lets get busy with it, maybe it will be the shortest one yet, then again maybe not, it was a busy year as they all are.
Work at CSC is the same old same old mostly. I hate talking about work in these reviews so NEXT!

JANUARY: I spent New Years alone, but watched S.W.A.T. the 2003 movie starring Samuel L. Jackson. Pretty good movie, nice update. Kensington Arts Theatre (KAT) recieved 4 nominations for the WATCH Awards (2 Acting in Musical, 1 Music Direction, 1 Make up). Last year 2003 was KATs first year of participation with WATCH. I had to order a new Laptop, since the other one died (Mostly I've been juggling between my work computer and my mothers), and my desktop is now 10 years old (an AT&T 386 or 486? with Windows 95 Updated from Windows 3.1, both sized floppy drives 3.5, and the ancient old school 5.25, but with a 56K modem that was installed around Y2K) I had buku bucks in credit with Sears I ordered the new laptop (or notebook if you prefer) through there. It's a Sony - Vaio and it's pretty cool, It came in a huge box though, tons of styrofoam peanuts ugh.

FEBRUARY: KAT did it's first ever Kids show Stop and Think. A show with kids for kids about obeying rules and staying away from drugs and bad stuff. Oh I'm doing sound design for KAT Into The Woods, the Giant's death is quite a pain. Auditions were also held for Tick, Tick, BOOM!

MARCH: WATCH Awards, KAT was nominated for 4 awards but came home with nothing. Into The Woods opened, ran was fun, except for the pain in the butt Giant's Death sound effects. The timming was a huge issue and never did get done quite right.

APRIL: SSTG did a production of Snoopy: The Musical at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn. I did lights for it a few times, but not for all the performances. It was mostly fun. SSTGs main show was a one man show Bully a show about Teddy Roosevelt. Meanwhile over at KAT I sound designed and then ran lights for Tick, Tick...BOOM! which ran into May (Bully does too).

MAY: Bully finishes it's run at The Gaithersburg Arts Barn. Not much else, Tick, Tick...BOOM! closes.

JUNE: Mixed blessing events. My buddy TJs mother passed away, they had problems with each other, unfortunately. Fortunately TJ and his wife Ellen came back to the general area for the funeral and a bitter-sweet visit.

JULY: SSTG is trying something new, Readers Theatre, a new play or playwrite will be featured and their show will be presented as a sort of workshop of sorts. SSTG Auditions for it's fall show Kindertransport.

AUGUST: KAT auditions for Rocky Horror Show. That is pretty much it.

SEPTEMBER: I Vacation in Sunny Florida, and what happens? It rains most of the time I'm there and then on the night before I'm scheduled to leave a Hurricane comes through cancels flights left and right, and I have to stay an extra night. It wouldn't have been too bad if I hadn't worried about money since I didn't bring any credit cards this time, and had spent all my money. That was pretty much it for September.

OCTOBER: SSTG Kindertransport opens, and is pretty good, very serious but good. KAT Rocky Horror Show Opens Holloween Weekend, and runs through November.

NOVEMBER: The Rocky Horror Show with KAT, a super show, I ran lights for it, it was phenomenal.

DECEMBER:At Gaithersburg Arts Barn KAT revives Songs For A New World with a different cast from last year, it is not as tight as last years main stage version, but it brings in money for the group. In preparation for an eventual move to a new facility, KAT aquires the audience seats that Silver Spring Stage are replacing. The seats will be stored by Silver Spring Stage until KAT can either store them or install them. Well that is about it for 2004.

Plans for 2005:

  • Try to keep this silly tradition going and actually send it out.
  • Get myself better organized, as usual.
See Ya!

Kirk
